English is the language of instruction for all subjects with, of course, the exception of the regular Italian classes which prepare the children for the optional italian 5th Grade exams. The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) forms the basis for an integrated programme which includes not only the core subjects of English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science but also Arts and Crafts (see Art Week), Music and Movement, Drama, Gymnastics and, in the younger classes, Cooking.
There are several local field trips a year for each class and 4th and 5th grade students have the option of participating in extended trips to Florence in connection with their Renaissance studies and to Greece in connection with their studies on ancient civilizations.
Private music teachers also offer students the opportunity of studying, within school hours, piano, guitar, recorder flute or clarinet.

For our younger children Kendale offers a daily routine aimed at giving them the opportunity to make choices and to become independent learners within a safe, respectful and supportive environment.
Music, active listening, discovery and hands-on activities offer stimulating and challenging situations where the links between their own and others’ experiences and backgrounds are explored.
Connections with nature and the environment are emphasized. Diverse means for recording information provide a strong basis for the eventual reading programme. Fostering the joy of learning, which is emphasized throughout the school is, of course, of vital importance for this age group.
